Dr Laura McKemmish is a quantum chemist and molecular physicist who uses computers to simulate the ways in which different molecules absorb light.
Her research is used by astronomers to find new molecules in space. Of particular interest is looking for biosignatures in exoplanetary atmospheres, and searching chiral and complex organic molecules in the interstellar medium that could have seeded life on Earth and elsewhere. Beyond her research, Laura is passionate about outreach and teaching. For example, she has served as Coordinator of multiple programs engaging high-school students in authentic research with university scientists.
